Nice

Located in southern Europe at the southeastern extremity of France, Nice is a privileged crossroad between the Alps, Provence, Corsica and Italy. The city occupies an exceptionnal natural site in the heart of French Riviera. It stretches over a coastal plain open soachward onto the mediterranean and bounded from East to West by a succession of wooden hills. In the background; rise the first peaks of the Alpine foothills, some reaching over 9000 ft above sea level, only 31 miles as the crow flies from the coast....

Nice
Nice enjoys an exceptionnal microclimate that has contributed to its renown for some two centuries. Open onto the sea, the city is protected from the winds by its hills, then, to the west, by the Estérel mountains and the Northwest by the barrier of the Mercantour Alps. The climate is always mild in winter and never too hot in summer, thanks to the sea breeze. You can often lunch on a terrace with no more than a T-shirt in February when the rest of France is shivering in the cold.

To find the Place de la Libération, you must walk up to the top of Avenue Malausséna. Its easy to recognize, thanks to its special structure which for a long time was the Chemins de Fer de Provence railway station. The market and shops are horns of plenty, briming with fruits, vegetables, fish, flowers and delicatessen...
Here, one finds a mixture of tradition and quality at a very affordable price. The Garden of Villa Thiole, the municipal school of plastics arts, add a touch of greenery to this genuine atmosphere. While you are about it, you can continue your walk up to see Le Ray stadium, not forgetting Gairault waterfalls, althought they are much further north, in the midst of a splendid residential area with a breathtaking view of the town and the sea.
